Disappear Here artist, film-maker Jack Norris, writes about the intersection between past and present
“Do you remember? I remember you”
Memories. They rise, they fade.
Decades pass by and generations are replaced by their descendants. They disappear but they are not forgotten. Through our remembrance they are reborn, again and again. Our memories are of a time older than ourselves – so who do they belong to?
I travel the road just like my grandparents before me. We make the same journey, and yet it is so different. Through time a collective memory develops, but it is not clear – I remember the fallen and yet, I do not.
Amidst this haze, one constant remains unchanged, it was born with concrete strength. Guiding us on our journey, it brings us full-circle so that we may remember the places in which we once stood.
Suddenly the self-professed ghost town takes new meaning; If yesterday is the ghost of today; are we not the ghosts of tomorrow?
The circle closes and three chapters arise:
(Re)born
In darkness we do not see the people, but we feel as they once did.
The Journey
Encircling, striding forward, never relenting.
I Remember
We are near the end, but the circle remains – forever standing strong.
